More Than 50 Years of Combined Immigration Experience
Green card cases require a clear eligibility path and careful attention to the federal application process. At Affordable Immigration, we help individuals, couples, families, and employers in Marion County, Oregon, pursue lawful permanent resident status based on their circumstances.
We’ve provided counsel on U.S. immigration law since 2009, and immigration is the sole focus of our practice. Our team brings more than 50 years of combined experience to green cards and related immigration benefits. We serve clients throughout Marion County and the Pacific Northwest.
We evaluate the facts of each case before advising a client about eligibility, filing procedures, and potential concerns. This focused review can identify the appropriate immigration category before forms and supporting documents are submitted.

Common Paths to a Green Card
A green card grants lawful permanent resident status. Eligibility generally arises through family sponsorship, qualifying employment, the diversity visa lottery, or an application after receiving refugee or asylee status.
Common green card matters we handle include:
Family-based immigration: These cases commonly begin with a qualifying family relationship and an immigrant petition. We handle marriage-based and fiancé-based applications as well as petitions involving parents and children.
Employment-based immigration: Eligibility must connect to a qualifying employment category. We assist with employment-linked green card matters for workers in the Salem area.
Diversity visa matters: We help clients understand eligibility and the steps associated with diversity visa programs.
Applicants already in the country may be able to apply for permanent residence without leaving. The correct route depends on immigration history, current status, family relationships, and employment circumstances.

The Green Card Application Process in Marion County
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, commonly called USCIS, decides many immigration benefit applications. A case may also involve biometrics, an appointment where the agency collects identifying information for processing.
Interviews for Salem and Marion County applicants are typically scheduled through the regional USCIS field office. We communicate with that office about scheduling and documentation questions, but federal agencies control interview dates and requests for additional documents.
Applying from Inside or Outside the Country
Eligible applicants already in the country may apply through adjustment of status. Consular processing involves the U.S. Department of State when an immigrant visa application is handled abroad.
Founding attorney Steve Richard Miller is admitted to practice in federal immigration courts and handles matters involving USCIS and the U.S. Department of State. We also counsel clients on visa acquisition and renewal, work permits, green cards, and naturalization when those issues affect their immigration plans.
Green Card Filing Fees & Related Costs
Government filing fees are separate from attorney fees and other case expenses. USCIS fee schedules can change, so we discuss anticipated government costs during the free initial consultation and advise clients about possible fee waiver eligibility.
The I-485 application commonly used to seek permanent residence from within the country can cost more than $1,000 per applicant. The listed fee for an applicant over age 14 is $1,440 for paper filing or $1,390 for online filing. A child under 14 filing concurrently with a parent pays $950 by paper or $900 online.
The I-130 petition used to establish certain qualifying family relationships costs $675 by paper or $625 online. Depending on the case, applicants may also need to budget for a medical examination and document translation. We explain the expenses that may apply to each green card matter.
A pending application, an expired Permanent Resident Card, and conditional resident status require different filings. We help lawful permanent residents file I-90 to renew or replace a green card.
Conditional permanent residents who obtained status through a qualifying marriage generally use I-751 to request removal of conditions. We assist with these filings and evaluate how the conditional residence requirements apply to each client’s circumstances.
Travel requires particular care while a permanent residence application is pending. Leaving the country without advance parole, meaning USCIS authorization for certain travel during processing, may cause the agency to treat the application as abandoned. Applicants should seek advice about their specific status before making international travel plans.
We’ve completed thousands of immigration matters. Attorney Miller and our firm also participate in the Marion County Human Trafficking Task Force. This experience informs our careful approach to immigration concerns that may extend beyond a single filing.
Discuss Your Green Card Options
We offer free initial and virtual consultations, services in Spanish, and affordable, reasonable rates. During your consultation, you can discuss the possible immigration category, anticipated filing costs, and concerns about moving forward.
Accurate forms and supporting documents are central to a green card application. During a consultation, we review the applicant’s immigration history and current circumstances to determine which filing path may apply.
Steve Miller founded our firm to provide immigration counsel to people navigating the federal system. We advise individuals, couples, families, and businesses from the initial case review through applicable agency interactions. Spanish-language service is available for clients who prefer to discuss their case in Spanish.
USCIS may issue a request for evidence when it needs additional information or documents. These requests carry agency-set response deadlines, making a timely and complete submission important. Our counsel is intended to minimize avoidable mistakes and reduce delays while addressing the requirements of each immigration case.
